AEPA Spanish Exam

The Spanish test measures your knowledge according to the Arizona Academic Standards. Success on the test indicates that you are qualified to teach Spanish in Arizona public schools. The test content is drawn from seven subareas based on AEPA learning objectives: Listening Comprehension (16% of the test); Reading and Vocabulary (29%); Language Structures (22%); Cultural Understanding (16%); Foreign Language Methodology (16%); Written Expression; and Oral Expression. Test-takers should be proficient in each of these areas. For example, the test covers the literal content and interpretation of authentic materials of diverse periods and forms; the test may also require the completion of Spanish words, phrases, or sentences. For the third subarea, test-takers should know the grammar and linguistic components of Spanish and may be asked to complete passages in Spanish. Test-takers should know key features of Hispanic cultures (e.g., history, geography, and culture) and current trends in foreign language methodology. Lastly, the test covers skills in both Spanish composition and oral expression (for a variety of purposes and audiences), including vocabulary, idioms, grammar, and pronunciation.
